General Knowledge Trivia Quiz
Where in the world?
You are watching giant teak logs as they float down the Ayeyarwaddy River. What country are you in?
Your answer — A) China — was incorrect.
The Ayeyarwaddy (or “Irrawaddy”) is the major river of Myanmar, formerly known as Burma. It starts in the north, running through the rugged foot-hills of the Himalayas. As it flows south it divides the country into eastern and western halves, until emptying into the Indian Sea through a fertile nine-armed delta. Before the British arrived, the city of Mandalay was the capital of Burma, and was only accessible by river. Thus the Ayeyarwaddy was known as the “Road to Mandalay”.
