Which of the following types of organism has the closest evolutionary relationship to human beings?
Your answer was correct!
Viruses are so distant from humans on the tree of life that it is a matter of debate whether they should be considered alive at all. That is not a question when it comes to the bacteria and archaea, which are grouped together as prokaryotes — single-celled organisms with no enclosed cell nucleus. The archaea are similar in size and general appearance to the bacteria, but have cell features that in some ways resemble those of the eukaryotes, a large and diverse group whose members include amoebas, fungi, plants and animals (such as humans). Within the eukaryotes, fungi and animals are quite closely related, however alien they seem.
